How to Join Bay Reps Varsity Hockey

Community Hockey Built Across Northern Michigan

Joining the Bay Reps Northern Michigan Varsity Hockey Program is a process built around preparation, commitment, and development. Our goal is to help players get ready for the speed and expectations of varsity hockey while building a strong team culture from the start.

The journey begins in the summer, where players have the opportunity to skate with the program, develop their skills, and get to know the coaching staff and teammates. While participation during the summer is strongly encouraged, all players are welcome to try out at the end of the process.

Here is a step-by-step outline of how to become a Bay Reps player.

Please Note: Contact us, sign up for our mailing list, or like us on Facebook, to get information when we send it on summer skate orientation.

Step 1: Attend Summer Skate Orientation (June)

Each June, Bay Reps hosts Summer Skate Orientation sessions. These skates are designed to introduce potential players to the pace, expectations, and culture of our varsity program.

While attending orientation skates is not required in order to try out, we strongly recommend participating. It gives players valuable ice time with the program and allows coaches to see development and commitment early in the process.

Step 2: Summer Training & Development (June–August)

Players should plan to skate with the program for approximately 2.5 months during the summer (June through August). This training period builds conditioning, systems familiarity, and team chemistry heading into the season.

Consistent participation during the summer helps prepare players for the competitive level of varsity hockey.

Step 3: Tryouts (Late Summer)

At the conclusion of the summer skate program, players will be added to the official contact list and will receive email updates regarding tryout dates, requirements, and important season information.

Players who do not attend summer orientation or skates are still eligible to try out. However, summer participation is highly encouraged as it provides valuable preparation and exposure.
